On November 23, people around the world will celebrate Wolfenoot, a day that honours both the spirit of the wolf and the simple power of kindness.
It is a time to show compassion for animals, especially dogs, who carry the loyalty and lineage of their wild ancestors.
Wolfenoot is an annual “Day’ which you may not have heard of yet. It was created by a seven-year-old boy with a big imagination and an even bigger heart for animals. With the help of his mum, Jax Goss, his idea grew from a family conversation into a global celebration. Within a day of being shared online, people across the world were joining in, supporting the idea and ready to action kindness and care for animals.
At the heart of Wolfenoot, is a story about the Spirit of the Wolf, who visits on the night of November 23, leaving small gifts for those who show kindness, especially to dogs. Families often mark the occasion with a meal that a wolf might enjoy, such as roast meat, and by sharing photos of their dogs using #Wolfenoot. These supporters and followers of Wolfenoot are called Wolfenati.
In the lead-up to the day, organisers encourage everyone to take part in simple acts of generosity through the Kindness Challenge. Ideas include spending time with an animal or a kid, planting something, making food to give or share, volunteering, or simply doing something nice for yourself or another person. Many supporters also donate to, or volunteer at, local animal shelters as a way to give back.
Wolfenoot is about connection with animals, with nature, and with one another. It reminds us that kindness does not have to be complicated or grand; it can be as simple as a gentle word, a shared meal, or a few minutes spent with a furry friend.
So on November 23, let the spirit of the wolf inspire you to be kind, care for the creatures who share our world, and maybe even hide a little surprise for someone who deserves it.And while you are at it, celebrate a young man of 7 who saw a need and spoke out. He truly embodies the mantra, ‘Be the change you want to see in the world’.
Go on … it’s fun !!
